Beef Bulgogi

Bulgogi is a korean dish and I was introduced to it at one of the tasting stalls at Costco. Its not spicy yet theres a unique flavour from the addition of soya sauce and brown sugar. Nutty? Smoky? Not sure which note it hits on the palette but it sure is delicious. Since its not spicy,I have seen kids queuing up to get hold of the tasting cup and sneaking around for seconds 🙂 . The Dish also has pears/apples going into the recipe. I have not used them though.

Recipe

Serves : 4-5

Beef : 500 gms, Thinly sliced or Stir fry from Coles

Carrots : 1 medium, Julienned

Onion : 1 medium , finely chopped, (grated works best)

Ginger : 1 inch finely chopped

Garlic : 2 fat cloves, finely Chopped

Pepper : 1.5 tsp

Soya Sauce : 2-3 tbsp

Brown Sugar : 2 tsp

Oil : 1 tbsp

Sesame Oil : 2 tsp

Spring Onion : 2 stalks finely chopped

Sesame seeds : 1 tsp

Method:

Add all the ingredients (except sesame seeds) to a bowl, mix well and let it marinate for about 4 hours in the fridge.

Heat up a pan, add the marinated meat, let it cook in it own juices on high heat, for about 8-10 mins. Since its very thin/tender it will get cooked soon.

Make sure you have plenty of sauce so that it doesnt get dried up and you will be left with chewy meat then. So cooking it right is very important

Serve on a bed of lettuce or fried rice/noodles.
